How to Choose a New Hair Salon

The key to great hair care starts with your salon and stylist. It's the number one way to guarantee that you receive the best cuts using the latest professional techniques. Add to the mix fantastic service, and finding the right salon for you can be a daunting and confusing process. Here are some helpful suggestions to guide you in your search for the salon that suits your needs.
The first step in your search is to ask around. Ask a friend, neighbor, relative, even a stranger on the street whose hair you admire, who her stylist is. You will be hard pressed to find someone who does not take your question as a compliment, and they will be happy to give you some recommendations.
After arming yourself with recommendations, you need to set up a consultation with the potential new stylist. Keep in mind that this consultation should not cost you anything--you're simply feeling out the stylist and salon to see if you click. During your consultation, be sure to make the following observations:
1. What is your first impression of the stylist? Do your personalities seem to click? A first impression can be a powerful influence and is generally correct. 2. What does the stylist's hair look like? How a stylist presents himself or herself says a lot about how they will take care of you. Badly damaged hair should clue you in to run far away. 3. Did the stylist take enough time to assess your lifestyle and hairstyle history? This information is important in order for the stylist to assess future possibilities. 4. How clean is the salon? Does it appear organized? Look for sanitary procedures such as the use of clean combs and brushes, sanitary neck strips, and a clean work station. If the place feels dirty, don't go there. Remember that the same pride someone takes in their salon is the same level of pride and effort he or she will take in their work. 5. Was your appointment conducted professionally? Again, does the stylist seem to take pride in their work and convey that sense of importance to you?
If you don't find your perfect stylist after one or even two consultations, don't worry. With a little trial and error, and following the above advice, you can find the stylist who will help you on your way to having the hair of your dreams.
